Now You See Me, Now You Don’t: DIY Vanity Table

I’ve been using my three story computer desk to do my makeup since I moved back home from my pathetic excuse for a room in college. My two train cases take up the top two tiers of my desk and I can never find the right black eyeliner when I need it.  Then, when it comes time to actually wanting to use my desk for its regular purpose, my laptop has no place to go. I started perusing the WWW to find the right vanity table for me. I wanted something modern and chic and something that was multi-functional for when I–hallelujah–finally move out of my parent’s home, I will have useful furniture. Not that my grandmothers hideous Pepto-Bismol colored chairs don’t serve a purpose by giving my cats an excuse to leave all their excess fur in my room instead of on their bodies, but I think they’ve long surpassed their expiration dates, back in the 1960s. One of the sites I check daily is IKEA Hackers. They take things found in IKEA stores and transforming them from cheap-dorm-room-crap to modern pieces of DIY artwork.

Supplies:

  • IKEA Vika Veine Table Top in Brown
  • IKEA Vika Lage Legs in Chrome
  • IKEA Sandby Ottoman in White
  • Low Voltage Downlights
  • Mirror
  • Plastic Trays
  • Velcro Strips

What Do I Do Next?

  1. Assemble the table top and legs together.
  2. Add the velcro strips to the felt to attach the mirror.
  3. Add additional velcro strips to the felt to attach the lights.
  4. Lay the plastic trays inside the table, which you can use to organize make-up containers.
  5. The ottoman has room for storage, which is perfect for storing space hogging hair dryers, rollers and straighteners!
